A knowledge check is a lesson made of quiz blocks that is graded. Students submit their answers, Fayne scores them on the server, and the result decides whether they pass. A check can be required, so later lessons stay locked until it is passed, or optional, so it simply records a score. Checks use the same quiz blocks you already know from lessons: multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, ordering, and matching. The difference is what happens on submit. In a normal lesson each block confirms itself instantly. In a check, the answer keys are stripped from what the student receives, and nothing is revealed until they submit the whole check.

Add a check

Open the course editor

Go to Courses and open the course.

Add a knowledge check

Open the chevron menu next to Add lesson in the lesson sidebar and choose Add knowledge check. If the course has modules, each module header menu offers the same option, so you can drop a check at the end of a chapter.

Write the questions

A check opens in the normal block editor. Type / and insert blocks from the Knowledge checks group: Multiple Choice, True or False, Fill in the Blanks, Put in Order, or Match the Pairs. Anything else you add (headings, a short intro) is shown but not graded.

Set the scoring

Open Check settings from the check’s row in the sidebar.
  • Pass mark: the share of questions that must be correct to pass. Default is 70%.
  • Required to advance: when on, later lessons stay locked until this check is passed. On by default.

Publish

Publish the check like any lesson. Checks show a distinct icon in the lesson list so you can tell them apart from lessons.
A check needs at least one gradeable quiz block. A check with only text has nothing to score, so students cannot pass it.

What students experience

Submit once, see the result

Students answer every question, then press Submit answers. They see their score against the pass mark and either Check passed or Not quite there yet.

Retake freely

A failed check can be retaken. The best score is what counts, so a later failed attempt never undoes an earlier pass.

Locked lessons

When a check is required, the lessons after it show as locked in the sidebar and the course outline with a “Pass … to continue” note. Passing unlocks them immediately.

Completion

Passing a required check marks it complete. An optional check counts as complete on submit, whatever the score.
Checks combine with drip scheduling. If a lesson is behind both a required check and a drip timer, the check wins while it is unpassed; once passed, the drip timer applies as usual. Work a student has already completed never re-locks when you change settings later.
Answers are graded on the server against the stored check, and the answer keys never reach the browser before submit. Students cannot read the correct answers out of the page.

Read the results

Open a course’s insights (the chart icon next to the settings gear in the course editor, or Insights in the owner sidebar and then the course) and switch to the Knowledge checks tab. A Graded checks section at the top lists every check with:
  • its pass mark and whether it is required to advance
  • pass rate: the share of students who have ever passed it
  • average best score across students
  • an expandable list of students with their latest score, best score, and number of tries, with students who have not yet passed sorted first

Checks from AI generation

When you generate a course with AI, the brief’s Knowledge checks setting decides how many checks the outline gets: None, Some (a short check after each module), or Many (a check every two or three lessons). A check is never first or doubled up. It is written from the finished lessons it covers, so its questions match what was actually taught: three to five questions in a micro course, four to eight otherwise. Checks show a Check label on the outline, and you can remove or move them like any lesson.
