Gemini is one assistant reached through several doors. It has an app of its own, and the same assistant also sits inside Google Search, Gmail and Google Docs, already holding the material you are working on. Which door you come in by decides how much it can see, and that decides the answer.
The course starts at the screen itself: the five controls worth knowing, and getting in on the free plan with the Google account you already have. Then the two habits that separate a usable answer from filler, saying the whole task and steering the draft. Then the model picker, the three doors, and what to confirm before you act on a fast answer. Every click path, model name, plan and limit was checked against Google's own pages in October 2026.
